Lady Saints On the Move By Elizabeth Dang Editor in Chief, SJPII Times Online
The softball season has started and the girls are off to a great start with a 2-1-1 record. During practices, the girls have been focusing on batting and pitching. Coach Woods has helped the players with their batting by playing games. A team favorite is a game called Egg. The concept of the game is to get the batter out by touching second base without throwing the ball. This game allows the girls to hustle to the ball and gives each player an opportunity to work on their batting. In addition, Coach Woods uses drills, like the double catch drill, to help them improve in their accuracy and speed with catching and throwing. The players used the lessons learned during practice to bring home a win against St. Theresa in their first game. The team later participated in the St. Francis Episcopal Tournament and did a great job against some tough teams, but unfortunately did not place. The girls took their dedication to win to their next game at home against St. Cecilia, but later suffered their first lost against St. Ambrose during an away game. The team then prepared for another tough game against St. Elizabeth Anne Seton and played hard. The team ended the game with a tie, but did an outstanding job. We are so proud of what the girls have accomplished so far and can’t wait for them to continue to bring home more wins!

In the third quarter in P.E., the students participated in hockey, Ultimate Frisbee, and softball units. In hockey, they worked on puck control and shooting. In Ultimate Frisbee, they worked on throwing and catching the Frisbee. Seventh grader, Beatriz Eade said that her favorite thing about Ultimate Frisbee was playing together as a team. In softball, they worked on their throwing and catching skills, as well as their batting. Fifth grader, M.K. Davis said that her favorite thing about softball was playing the games.
Some upcoming sports in P.E. are lacrosse, badminton, and many more surprises for the students. The students in grades Kindergarten through second worked on soccer skill-based activities. Through these activities, they used their feet, kicking and passing soccer balls to a target. They worked on hand-eye coordination. For example, they did something with their left foot while also using their right hand. Overall, the P.E. department has had a great third quarter!

The team lost to St. Thomas More, St. Cecilia, and St. Laurence, however was victorious against St. Francis de Sales and St. Augustine. Coach Piazza, former SJPII student, and his assistant coaches are working with the players on catching pop flies in the outfield and hitting. The players have improved their skills drastically since the beginning of the season, and we look forward to their upcoming games to see their improvements in action.
