Our WHCSA athletes have been hard at work during the third quarter. The basketball teams had their first games after the Christmas Break, and their final games were played on March 4. Great job to all of our young Saints on their fantastic seasons!
Registration has completed for the spring sports during the third quarter. Volleyball had 52 girls sign up in grades four through eight, and baseball had 105 boys and girls sign up to play. The practices for these sports started on March 6, and their first games will be on March 25. Good luck to our volleyball and baseball teams and many thanks to the parent volunteer coaches for their time and effort!

The Girls’ basketball teams had amazing seasons! The Sixth Grade team had a record of 7-2 and learned many new plays and skills this season. The JV team worked hard this season and ended with a record of 5-5. The Varsity had an excellent season going 13-2 and winning the GHCAA Championship! The Varsity team beat Saint Laurence 21-20 in the championship and was named champion after a review of the final shot of the game. Coach Hewitt was very proud of the three teams’ dedication and and determination this season! The girls are excited to keep practicing and working on their skills to defend their Championship next season.

The Physical Education department has been pushing hard to stay fit! In the third quarter, the students worked on six different units including softball, tchoukball, badminton, hockey, ultimate Frisbee, and lacrosse. The students learned teamwork through the units including having good spirit and winning or losing with good sportsmanship.
The younger students learned body control while jumping and kicking in P.E. This past quarter, the seventh graders learned CPR and first aid during P.E.
All the students are required to take the fitness tests. The fitness tests help the students with flexibility and strength. Also the P.E. department helped with the planning of Spirit Day during Catholic Schools Week.
Overall, the P.E. department had a rocking third quarter!

All three boys’ basketball teams have finished their seasons. The sixth grade team finished with a record of 2-6, but are preparing for next year. The JV team had a very tough schedule and finished with a 0-9 record. Although the boys didn’t get the result they were looking for, they are excited to get better throughout the year and have a better season next year. The Varsity team finished the best of the three with a 3-7 record.
Each of our boys’ teams struggled this year, but the effort and sportsmanship they showed was outstanding. Coach Hertlein said, “The boys did a great job of handling themselves whether it was after a win or a loss.” He also said that the boys could improve on, “boxing out and making quicker passes especially when being pressured.” We look forward to watching the Saints’ basketball teams next year as they grow and improve!
